SINCE 1878, DUNN Consistently Completes Projects and Delivers Quality Work on Schedule and Within Budget.
Originally a railroad construction company, The Dunn Brothers Construction Company was founded in Virginia in 1878 by Evans and Thomas Dunn. Today Dunn Building Company is part of one of the oldest contracting businesses in America.
In the early 1900s Dunn moved its headquarters to Birmingham-where the company undertook the construction of a tunnel through Red Mountain nearly half a mile long. For years, the tunnel served as the young city’s sole fresh water piping source from the Cahaba River.
With the advent of widespread automobile ownership-and the growing need for road paving-Dunn opened one of the country’s first asphalt plants in 1915. Highway construction remains one of Dunn’s major businesses-which we operate in two geographic regions in the Southeast, under the corporate names Dunn Construction and Dunn Roadbuilders.
Dunn entered the ready mix concrete business in 1927, when it formed Mississippi Materials in Jackson. Mississippi Materials today is the state’s largest ready mix concrete supplier. And with the acquisition of Bayou Concrete on the Gulf Coast of Alabama and Mississippi, Dunn has established itself as a leader in the Southeastern market.
In 1940, Dunn entered the general building construction business-focusing most of its early efforts on projects for the military. Gradually, our construction business expanded into commercial, institutional and industrial building projects across the Southeast.
Dunn added Development to its range of services with the 2004 formation of Dunn Real Estate. Coupled with our building capabilities, we can now offer our clients Build-To-Suit and Turnkey Development services-while maintaining Dunn standards for service and professionalism, start to finish.
DUNN BUILDING COMPANY TODAY
Most of Dunn Building Company’s projects today are focused in the industrial and commercial markets.
With our design-build capabilities, Dunn Building Company gives owners seamless facility procurement for design, engineering, and construction. Another competitive advantage we offer is the ability to self-perform key aspects of our projects—including concrete work and pre-engineered building erection.
For over 130 years, we’ve maintained a reputation for consistently completing quality projects on schedule and within budget. Which is why more than 70% of our projects are for repeat clients-and why we enjoy so many solid, long-term relationships with subcontractors and suppliers. Not to mention employees!
